Benefits of teletherapy:
In many areas of the psychological field, telehealth counseling is transforming therapy. Many individuals who could benefit from mental health treatment either do not seek it or cannot get it. It is no secret that current generations value mobility and flexibility. Teletherapy allows therapists to meet their clients where they’re at, literally. Whether that’s in a hospital or a distant location far away from a city center, these factors no longer need to be roadblocks to seeking care. This increased accessibility has the potential to revolutionize the mental healthcare field.
Effectiveness of teletherapy:
Data shows that teletherapy is as effective at treating mental health disorders as in-person therapy. The importance of facial cues are not lost with video conferencing and therapists are still able to offer the highest quality treatment. They can do this all while being location independent. Standard of care is important. See the results of studies below:
-
A 2014 published in the Journal of Affective Disorders found that online treatment was just as effective as face-to-face treatment for depression.
-
A 2018 study published in the Journal of Psychological Disorders found that online cognitive behavioral therapy is, "effective, acceptable and practical health care." The study found online CBT was equally as effective as face-to-face treatment for major depression, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder.
